General Information
The Official Opening Ceremony of the Conference will take place on 18 July at 6pm in Braga's main theatre (Theatro Circo), right in the city centre, close to hotels, historic sites, restaurants and shops. During the conference, other evening social events will also take place in the city centre. A special conference dinner, on the 21 July, will happen in the magnificent Bom Jesus hill where many Braga hotels are located.

The conference scientific programme (9am of 19 July until 8pm of 22 July) will take place mainly in the Pedagogic Complex 2 of the Campus of Gualtar, University of Minho, 2.5 kms from the city centre. Familiar names such as Annabelle Sreberny, Barbie Zelizer, Hopeton Donn, Marques de Melo, Divina Frau-Meigs, will intervene in the plenary sessions.
But other personalities from different fields, geographies and work experience will also contribute to the plenary debates: Carlos Lopes, a sociologist from Guinea-Bissau (now working for the UN); Moisés de Lemos Martins, President of the Portuguese Communication Association; Rosenthal Alves, a Brazilian Journalism Professor based in the University of Texas, among others.

The Local Organizing Committee is working under difficult conditions due to the country's financial crisis. But, it is trying to make sure that this extraordinary scientific event is also a rewarding cultural and artistic experience. There will be room for music and performance art since the very first conference day and you might be surprised with the outstanding talent of some IAMCR members!
